35.3 Koat-tēng boeh khì chng-kha pêng-iú hia

35.3 決定欲去庄跤朋友 hia
Anselmo 毋信. 伊氣 kah 烏暗眩, 攑出短刀, 威脅欲刺 Leonela, 叫她著講事實, 若無, 欲 kā 刣死. Leonela 大著驚, 她喙 poe-poe 喝聲講:
"毋好刣我, 先生, 我 ē-sái kā 你講, 你想袂到 ê, koh-khah 重要 ê 代誌."
"Án-ne 著馬上 kā 我講, 若無, 你穩死." Anselmo 講.
"今我無法度," Leonela 講, "我 siuⁿ 激動. 等到明仔載, 我才 kā 你講, 彼時你 ē 大大著驚. 但, 你放心, ùi 窗仔跳出去彼个人是本城 ê 少年家, 伊已經答應欲娶我做牽手."
Anselmo 心神定落來, 願意等到她要求 ê 時間. 伊無料著, che 代誌 ē 關係著 Camilla, 因為伊對她 ê 美德滿意 koh 有信心. 伊離開房間, kā Leonela 鎖 tī 內面, 對她講, 著等她 kā 欲 hō͘ 伊知 ê 代誌講了, 才欲放她出來. 伊即刻走去見 Camilla, kā 講伊 kap Leonela ê 代誌, 以及她答應欲提供伊極重要 ê 消息.
免講 Camilla 是毋是起緊張, 她確實是著驚 kah 欲死. 她完全相信, Leonela ē kā 所知 ê, 她 ê 不忠講 hō͘ Anselmo 知. Camilla 無勇氣等到 ka-tī ê 猜疑得著確認, tō tī hit 暗, 拍算 Anselmo 已經睏去, 她款好 ka-tī 最貴重 ê 珠寶 kap 一寡錢, 偷偷仔出門, 走去 Lothario in tau. 她 kā 發生 ê 代誌講 hō͘ Lothario 聽, 求伊 kā 她藏 tī 安全 ê 所在, a̍h 雙人同齊逃去 Anselmo 揣袂著 ê 所在.
Camilla 為 Lothario 帶來 ê 困境, hō͘ 伊一時講無話, koh-khah 毋知按怎做好. 落尾, 伊決定𤆬她去 in 小妹做院長 ê 修道院. Camilla 同意, Lothario tō 緊 kā 她送到修道院, 然後伊 ka-tī mā 靜靜消失 tī 城市, 無 hō͘ 任何人知影伊 ê 離開.
天一下光, Anselmo 無注意著 Camilla 已經無 tī 身邊, 急欲知影 Leonela 欲 kā 伊講 ê 代誌, tō 緊去伊關她 ê 房間. 伊開門, 入去, 但無看著 Leonela. 伊 kan-ta 看著結 tī 窗仔 ê 床單, 表明她已經 ùi hia 落去, 走去 ah. 伊 kài 袂爽, 轉去欲 kā Camilla 講, 但 tī 眠床 a̍h tī 厝內任何所在, lóng 揣無她, 感覺大驚疑. 伊問厝內僕人她去佗位, 但無人知. Tng 伊 teh 揣 Camilla ê 時, 忽然發現她 ê 箱仔開開, 大部份 ê 珠寶 lóng 無 tī-leh. 今伊完全意識著 ka-tī ê 恥辱, á Leonela mā 毋是伊不幸 ê 根源. 這時陣, 伊無 khòa 打扮 kap 穿插, 心情沉重, 傷心 koh 鬱卒, tō 到朋友 Lothario in tau, 欲 kā 伊講 ka-tī ê 悲傷代誌. 但 tī hia 揣無伊, 僕人講伊規暝無轉來, 而且所有 ê 錢 lóng 扎走 ah. Che hō͘ 伊感覺強欲起痟, koh-khah 害 ê 是, 等伊轉到 ka-tī ê 厝, 發現內面空空, 所有 ê 僕人, 無論查埔, 查某, lóng 已經離開.
伊毋知欲想啥, 講啥, 做啥, 伊 ê 理智 ká-ná 漸漸 teh 消失. 伊回顧 ka-tī ê 處境, 發現 ka-tī 忽 leh 無某, 無朋友, 無僕人, 發現 ka-tī ùi 天頂跋落, 尤其是完全失去榮譽, 因為 Camilla ê 失蹤 hō͘ 伊看著 ka-tī ê 毀滅. 經過長時間 ê 思考, 伊最後決定欲去庄跤朋友 hia, its 當初伊去 tī hia, 才 ē 提供機會 hông 創空造成 chit 場災難.
伊 kā 厝 ê 門 lóng 鎖好勢, 騎上馬, 抱一粒破碎 ê 心出發. 但, 行未到一半路, 因為心煩意亂, 伊只好落馬, kā 馬縛 tī 樹仔, ka-tī 坐落 tī 樹跤, 吐出悲傷, 哀怨 ê 大氣. 伊 tī hia 歇到天欲暗, 看著一个人騎馬 ùi 城ni̍h 來. 伊 kap 伊拍招呼, 問伊 Florence 有啥消息.

Anselmo would not believe it, but blind with rage drew a dagger and threatened to stab Leonela, bidding her tell the truth or he would kill her. She, in her fear, not knowing what she was saying, exclaimed, .
“Do not kill me, señor, for I can tell you things more important than any you can imagine.”
“Tell me then at once or thou diest,” said Anselmo.
“It would be impossible for me now,” said Leonela, “I am so agitated: leave me till to-morrow, and then you shall hear from me what will fill you with astonishment; but rest assured that he who leaped through the window is a young man of this city, who has given me his promise to become my husband.”
Anselmo was appeased with this, and was content to wait the time she asked of him, for he never expected to hear anything against Camilla, so satisfied and sure of her virtue was he; and so he quitted the room, and left Leonela locked in, telling her she should not come out until she had told him all she had to make known to him. He went at once to see Camilla, and tell her, as he did, all that had passed between him and her handmaid, and the promise she had given him to inform him matters of serious importance.
There is no need of saying whether Camilla was agitated or not, for so great was her fear and dismay, that, making sure, as she had good reason to do, that Leonela would tell Anselmo all she knew of her faithlessness, she had not the courage to wait and see if her suspicions were confirmed; and that same night, as soon as she thought that Anselmo was asleep, she packed up the most valuable jewels she had and some money, and without being observed by anybody escaped from the house and betook herself to Lothario’s, to whom she related what had occurred, imploring him to convey her to some place of safety or fly with her where they might be safe from Anselmo. /
The state of perplexity to which Camilla reduced Lothario was such that he was unable to utter a word in reply, still less to decide upon what he should do. At length he resolved to conduct her to a convent of which a sister of his was prioress; Camilla agreed to this, and with the speed which the circumstances demanded, Lothario took her to the convent and left her there, and then himself quitted the city without letting anyone know of his departure.
As soon as daylight came Anselmo, without missing Camilla from his side, rose eager to learn what Leonela had to tell him, and hastened to the room where he had locked her in. He opened the door, entered, but found no Leonela; all he found was some sheets knotted to the window, a plain proof that she had let herself down from it and escaped. He returned, uneasy, to tell Camilla, but not finding her in bed or anywhere in the house he was lost in amazement. He asked the servants of the house about her, but none of them could give him any explanation. /
As he was going in search of Camilla it happened by chance that he observed her boxes were lying open, and that the greater part of her jewels were gone; and now he became fully aware of his disgrace, and that Leonela was not the cause of his misfortune; and, just as he was, without delaying to dress himself completely, he repaired, sad at heart and dejected, to his friend Lothario to make known his sorrow to him; but when he failed to find him and the servants reported that he had been absent from his house all night and had taken with him all the money he had, he felt as though he were losing his senses; and to make all complete on returning to his own house he found it deserted and empty, not one of all his servants, male or female, remaining in it. /
He knew not what to think, or say, or do, and his reason seemed to be deserting him little by little. He reviewed his position, and saw himself in a moment left without wife, friend, or servants, abandoned, he felt, by the heaven above him, and more than all robbed of his honour, for in Camilla’s disappearance he saw his own ruin. After long reflection he resolved at last to go to his friend’s village, where he had been staying when he afforded opportunities for the contrivance of this complication of misfortune. /
He locked the doors of his house, mounted his horse, and with a broken spirit set out on his journey; but he had hardly gone half-way when, harassed by his reflections, he had to dismount and tie his horse to a tree, at the foot of which he threw himself, giving vent to piteous heartrending sighs; and there he remained till nearly nightfall, when he observed a man approaching on horseback from the city, of whom, after saluting him, he asked what was the news in Florence.
