Chit-sî, kheh-chàn lâi chi̍t-ê bē ti-bó--ê. Kàu-ūi liáu-āu, i pûn lô͘-tek phín-á sì/gō͘ pái, hō͘ Don Quixote koh-khah khak-tēng chia sī ū-miâ ê siâⁿ-pó, khoán-thāi i him-sióng im-ga̍k, he kiâm-hî tō sī chun-hî, pháng pe̍h siak-siak, hā-lú sī kùi hu-jîn, tiàm-chú sī siâⁿ-chú. 2.3 伊食飯 ê 款勢人看 tō 愛笑
Ná án-ne 講, 伊 ná 向前替 Don Quixote 扞馬鐙, hit 人拚大氣力才落馬來 (因為伊已經枵規工 ah), koh 交代主人著好好照顧伊 ê 馬, 因為 che 是世界上好 ê 馬. 店主 kā hit 隻馬看一下, 並無像 Don Quixote 所講 ê hiah 好, 一半好 to 無. 伊 kā 牽入馬房, tō 轉來看人客猶有啥吩咐. 這時, 已經 kap 伊和好 ê hit 兩个查某 tng-teh 替伊褪盔甲.
姻褪落伊 ê 胸甲 kap 背甲, 但姻毋知 mā 袂曉按怎 tháu 頷甲, mā 袂曉剝彼个準用 ê 頭盔, 因為 tháu 袂開伊縛頭盔青絲帶 ê 死結, 著 kā 割斷. 不而過, 無論如何 che 伊 to bē-tàng 同意. 所致, 規下昏伊一直戴頭盔, 成做咱所想 ē 出上龜怪, 上譀古 ê 模樣. Tng 姻替伊褪盔甲, 提 he 行李看是城堡內貴夫人 ê 款, 伊大歡喜 tùi 姻講:
"Oh, 定著 m̄-bat 有騎士
Án-ne hō͘ 貴夫人服務,
Kan-ta Don Quixote 一个
伊 ùi 故鄉來到地,
受著少女款待,
公主照顧馬 --
-- Rocinante 是我 ê 馬 ê 名, 女士 ah. La Mancha ê Don Quixote 才是我 ê 名. 我本成無愛公開身份, 一直到會得為恁效勞, 得著榮譽恁自然 ē 知. 但是我著改寫 he Lancelot 老歌謠 tī 這个場合, soah 提前 hō͘ 恁知我 ê 名. 不而過, 我定著有機會聽候夫人恁 ê 吩咐, 我 ē 服從, 到時我手骨 ê 氣力 tō ē 顯示我為恁服務 ê 願望."
姑娘 m̄-bat 聽過這種 phû-phàⁿ ê 話, 毋知按怎 ìn, kan-ta 問伊 kám 欲食啥.
"我歡喜食寡啥," Don Quixote 講, "我感覺是該食飯 ê 時陣 ah."
彼工拄好是拜五, 規客棧 kan-ta 有一種魚, he tī Castile 叫 "abadejo," tī Andalusia 叫 "bacallao," 別位叫 "curadillo," a̍h 叫 "troutlet (小尊魚)." 所以姻問伊 kám 欲食 troutlet, 因為無別款魚.
"既然有小尊魚," Don Quixote 講, "in kap 尊魚仝款 lah; 因為 tùi 我來講, hō͘ 我 8 个 real [銀角仔] kap 一个 8-real [ê 銀角仔] 是仝款. 尤其是, chiah-ê 小尊魚 tō ná 像牛囝肉比牛肉較好食, 羊羔肉比羊肉較好食. 無論如何, 緊捀出來 tō 著, 因為腹肚空空, 武裝 ê 重量 kap 壓力已經 hō͘ 我堪袂起 ah."
In 為伊 tī 客棧門口排一塊桌仔, 因為 hia 較通風, 主人捀一盤豉無夠, 凊彩煮 ê 鹹魚, kap 一塊 kap 伊 ê 戰甲平烏 koh 生菇 ê pháng. M̄-koh, 伊食飯 ê 款勢人看 tō 愛笑, 因為戴頭盔, 掀起面遮, 伊無法度 ka-tī kā chia̍h-mi̍h 送到喙, 著靠別人飼, 由其中一个查某 án-ne kā 伊服務. M̄-koh 無法度 hō͘ 伊啉物件, 佳哉店主為伊攢一支蘆竹管, 一頭囥 tī 伊 ê 喙, ùi 另外彼頭灌酒入去 hō͘ 伊啉. 伊真有耐心 án-ne 食, tō 是毋願剪斷頭盔帶仔.
這時, 客棧來一个賣豬母 ê. 到位了後, 伊歕蘆竹品仔四五擺, hō͘ Don Quixote koh-khah 確定 chia 是有名 ê 城堡, 款待伊欣賞音樂, he 鹹魚 tō 是尊魚, pháng 白 siak-siak, 下女是貴夫人, 店主是城堡主. 因為 án-ne, hō͘ 伊斷定 ka-tī ê 弄險 kap 出征有意義. M̄-koh, hō͘ 伊 ut-chut ê 是, 伊猶未得著騎士 ê 名號, 因為伊真清楚, 無騎士 ê 名號伊 bē-tàng 合法進行任何弄險 ê 活動.

So saying, he advanced to hold the stirrup for Don Quixote, who got down with great difficulty and exertion (for he had not broken his fast all day), and then charged the host to take great care of his horse, as he was the best bit of flesh that ever ate bread in this world. The landlord eyed him over but did not find him as good as Don Quixote said, nor even half as good; and putting him up in the stable, he returned to see what might be wanted by his guest, whom the damsels, who had by this time made their peace with him, were now relieving of his armour. /
They had taken off his breastplate and backpiece, but they neither knew nor saw how to open his gorget or remove his make-shift helmet, for he had fastened it with green ribbons, which, as there was no untying the knots, required to be cut. This, however, he would not by any means consent to, so he remained all the evening with his helmet on, the drollest and oddest figure that can be imagined; and while they were removing his armour, taking the baggages who were about it for ladies of high degree belonging to the castle, he said to them with great sprightliness:
“Oh, never, surely, was there knight
So served by hand of dame,
As served was he, Don Quixote hight,
When from his town he came;
With maidens waiting on himself,
Princesses on his hack—
—or Rocinante, for that, ladies mine, is my horse’s name, and Don Quixote of La Mancha is my own; for though I had no intention of declaring myself until my achievements in your service and honour had made me known, the necessity of adapting that old ballad of Lancelot to the present occasion has given you the knowledge of my name altogether prematurely. A time, however, will come for your ladyships to command and me to obey, and then the might of my arm will show my desire to serve you.”
The girls, who were not used to hearing rhetoric of this sort, had nothing to say in reply; they only asked him if he wanted anything to eat. /
“I would gladly eat a bit of something,” said Don Quixote, “for I feel it would come very seasonably.” /
The day happened to be a Friday, and in the whole inn there was nothing but some pieces of the fish they call in Castile “abadejo,” in Andalusia “bacallao,” and in some places “curadillo,” and in others “troutlet;” so they asked him if he thought he could eat troutlet, for there was no other fish to give him. /
“If there be troutlets enough,” said Don Quixote, “they will be the same thing as a trout; for it is all one to me whether I am given eight reals in small change or a piece of eight; moreover, it may be that these troutlets are like veal, which is better than beef, or kid, which is better than goat. But whatever it be let it come quickly, for the burden and pressure of arms cannot be borne without support to the inside.” /
They laid a table for him at the door of the inn for the sake of the air, and the host brought him a portion of ill-soaked and worse cooked stockfish, and a piece of bread as black and mouldy as his own armour; but a laughable sight it was to see him eating, for having his helmet on and the beaver up, he could not with his own hands put anything into his mouth unless someone else placed it there, and this service one of the ladies rendered him. But to give him anything to drink was impossible, or would have been so had not the landlord bored a reed, and putting one end in his mouth poured the wine into him through the other; all which he bore with patience rather than sever the ribbons of his helmet.
While this was going on there came up to the inn a sowgelder, who, as he approached, sounded his reed pipe four or five times, and thereby completely convinced Don Quixote that he was in some famous castle, and that they were regaling him with music, and that the stockfish was trout, the bread the whitest, the wenches ladies, and the landlord the castellan of the castle; and consequently he held that his enterprise and sally had been to some purpose. But still it distressed him to think he had not been dubbed a knight, for it was plain to him he could not lawfully engage in any adventure without receiving the order of knighthood.
