"伊毋但無付 hō͘ 我," 少年應, "等閣下一下行出樹林, kan-ta 賰阮兩人 ê 時, 伊隨 koh kā 我縛 tī 仝 hit 叢橡樹, koh kā 我 sut, sut kah ná 剝皮 ê 聖 Bartholomew. 每 sut 我一下, 伊 tō 綴 leh 講一句剾洗閣下 ê 五仁話. 若毋是疼 kah 欲死, 恐驚我聽 he mā ē 笑出來.
"簡單講, 伊 kā 我 sut kah 彼款體, 我拄拄才 ùi 病院出來, lóng 是 teh 治療彼个卑鄙做穡人所造成 ê 傷害. "䆀 tō 䆀 tī 我行開," Don Quixote 講, "我實在應該等到看著你提著錢才行開. Ùi 久年經驗我應該知影, 這種歹囝若無人跟, 伊是袂遵守約束. 毋過, 你會記得 lah hoⁿh, Andres, 我有咒誓, 伊若毋付錢 hō͘ 你, 我欲去揣伊, 準講伊覕 tī 海翁 ê 腹肚, mā 欲 kā 㨑出來."
"著, 是 án-ne," Andres 講, "毋過 án-ne mā 無效."
"真緊你 tō ē 看著有效 a̍h 無," Don Quixote 講. Án-ne 講了, 伊緊緊起身, 吩咐 Sancho kā tng-teh 食草 ê Rocinante 款好勢. Dorothea 問伊拍算欲創啥. 伊應講, 伊欲去揣彼个歹囝, 處罰伊這種邪惡 ê 行為, 保證 Andres 提著工錢, 1 sén to 無欠, 無論全世界 ê 歹囝按怎反對. 聽著 che, Dorothea 提醒伊講, 根據伊答應 ê 約束, tī 完成 tùi 她 ê 幫贊進前, 伊袂使 chhap 其他 ê 事項. Che, 伊並任何人 koh-khah 了解, 伊著克制 ka-tī ê 熱情, 一直到 ùi 她 ê 王國倒轉來.
"是 án-ne, 無毋著," Don Quixote 講, "á Andres 著愛有耐心, ná 小姐所講 ê án-ne, 等到我轉來. 我 koh 咒誓一擺, 一直到我為 Andres 報仇, 看伊收著工錢, 若無我袂干休."
"我 tùi he 咒誓無信心," Andres 講, "我寧可今有 cheh 啥幫贊我去 Seville, 才無 chhap 世界一切 ê 復仇. 恁若有啥 thang 食, hō͘ 我 ē-tàng 扎著, 請 hō͘ 我 pah. 神 ē 保庇閣下以及所有 ê 遊俠騎士. 但願眾位騎士 ê 事業順利, tō ná 我所得著 ê án-ne."
Sancho ùi 袋仔提出一塊 pháng, koh 提一塊 chhiz, 交 hō͘ 少年家, 講, "Che, 提去, Andres 兄弟, 你 ê 不幸, 阮 mā ē 感覺艱苦."
"講啥, 有啥好艱苦?"
"我 hō͘ 你 ê páng kap chhiz lah," Sancho 回答, "神才知, 我是毋是 ka-tī 有需要 che 無. 我 kā 你講, 朋友, 做遊俠騎士 ê 侍從, 阮著忍受濟濟枵飢 kap 災難, 甚至其他代誌, he 著親身體驗才 ē 知, 毋是 kō͘ 講 ê."
Andres 提 he pháng kap chhiz, 看無人 koh hō͘ 伊啥, tō 頭 lê-lê, 準備欲 koh 上路. 離開進前, 伊 án-ne 講:
"看 tī 神 ê 愛, 遊俠騎士 Sià, 你若 koh 拄著我, 準講你看著 in teh kā 我剁做 koe̍h, 免來 kā 我救助, 放我留 tī ka-tī ê 不幸. 我 ka-tī ê 不幸, khah 按怎 to 袂大 kah 並 hō͘ 閣下幫助了後 hiah 大. 神著咒懺閣下以及天下所有 ê 遊俠騎士."
Don Quixote 拄欲徛起來 kā 教訓一下, 毋過 Andres 起跤 tō 走, 緊 kah 無人綴 ē-tio̍h hiah 緊. Don Quixote hō͘ Andres ê 話講 kah kài 無面子, 其他人 soah 著忍牢莫笑出來, 免得伊揣無塗空 thang 覕.

“Not only did he not pay me,” replied the lad, “but as soon as your worship had passed out of the wood and we were alone, he tied me up again to the same oak and gave me a fresh flogging, that left me like a flayed Saint Bartholomew; and every stroke he gave me he followed up with some jest or gibe about having made a fool of your worship, and but for the pain I was suffering I should have laughed at the things he said. /
In short he left me in such a condition that I have been until now in a hospital getting cured of the injuries which that rascally clown inflicted on me then; for all which your worship is to blame; for if you had gone your own way and not come where there was no call for you, nor meddled in other people’s affairs, my master would have been content with giving me one or two dozen lashes, and would have then loosed me and paid me what he owed me; but when your worship abused him so out of measure, and gave him so many hard words, his anger was kindled; and as he could not revenge himself on you, as soon as he saw you had left him the storm burst upon me in such a way, that I feel as if I should never be a man again.”
“The mischief,” said Don Quixote, “lay in my going away; for I should not have gone until I had seen thee paid; because I ought to have known well by long experience that there is no clown who will keep his word if he finds it will not suit him to keep it; but thou rememberest, Andres, that I swore if he did not pay thee I would go and seek him, and find him though he were to hide himself in the whale’s belly.”
“That is true,” said Andres; “but it was of no use.”
“Thou shalt see now whether it is of use or not,” said Don Quixote; and so saying, he got up hastily and bade Sancho bridle Rocinante, who was browsing while they were eating. Dorothea asked him what he meant to do. He replied that he meant to go in search of this clown and chastise him for such iniquitous conduct, and see Andres paid to the last maravedi, despite and in the teeth of all the clowns in the world. To which she replied that he must remember that in accordance with his promise he could not engage in any enterprise until he had concluded hers; and that as he knew this better than anyone, he should restrain his ardour until his return from her kingdom.
“That is true,” said Don Quixote, “and Andres must have patience until my return as you say, señora; but I once more swear and promise not to stop until I have seen him avenged and paid.”
“I have no faith in those oaths,” said Andres; “I would rather have now something to help me to get to Seville than all the revenges in the world; if you have here anything to eat that I can take with me, give it me, and God be with your worship and all knights-errant; and may their errands turn out as well for themselves as they have for me.”
Sancho took out from his store a piece of bread and another of cheese, and giving them to the lad he said, “Here, take this, brother Andres, for we have all of us a share in your misfortune.”
“Why, what share have you got?”
“This share of bread and cheese I am giving you,” answered Sancho; “and God knows whether I shall feel the want of it myself or not; for I would have you know, friend, that we squires to knights-errant have to bear a great deal of hunger and hard fortune, and even other things more easily felt than told.”
Andres seized his bread and cheese, and seeing that nobody gave him anything more, bent his head, and took hold of the road, as the saying is. However, before leaving he said, /
“For the love of God, sir knight-errant, if you ever meet me again, though you may see them cutting me to pieces, give me no aid or succour, but leave me to my misfortune, which will not be so great but that a greater will come to me by being helped by your worship, on whom and all the knights-errant that have ever been born God send his curse.”
Don Quixote was getting up to chastise him, but he took to his heels at such a pace that no one attempted to follow him; and mightily chapfallen was Don Quixote at Andres’ story, and the others had to take great care to restrain their laughter so as not to put him entirely out of countenance.
