"Lí chit-ê chhàu sió-kiáⁿ," thêng chi̍t-khùn liáu-āu, i tùi i kóng, "lí siūⁿ-kóng lí chóng-sī ē-sái kan-sia̍p góa, chóng-sī ē-sái tek-sit góa, koh chóng-sī tit-tio̍h góa ê jiâu-sià hioh? Mài gōng-siūⁿ lah, lí chit-ê siat-to̍k sîn-bêng ê ok-kùn, lí tiāⁿ-tio̍h sī! In-ūi lí kèng-jiân tùi bô-tè-pí ê Dulcinea kóng hit-khoán pháiⁿ-thiaⁿ ōe. Lí chit-ê gōng-á, lô͘-môa, khit-chia̍h, lí kám m̄-chai, nā m̄-sī yi hō͘ góa ê chhiú-kut ū-la̍t, góa liân ka-cháu to jôe bē sí?
"Kóng khòaⁿ-māi, lí chit-ê to̍k-chi̍h ê lâng, sī siáng tit-tio̍h chit-ê ông-kok, sī siáng tok-lo̍h kī-jîn ê thâu, jiân-āu hong lí chò hô͘-chiok ah? Sancho sui-bóng tio̍h-kiaⁿ, tān ū thiaⁿ chheng-chhó chú-lâng só͘ kóng ê it-chhè, kín kha kín chhiú peh khí-lâi, cháu khì Dorothea khiâ ê lô-á āu-bīn, ùi hia tùi chú-lâng án-ne kóng:
"Chhiáⁿ mn̄g, sian-siⁿ, ká-sú koh-hā koat-sim m̄-chhōa chit-ūi tōa kong-chú, hián-jiân he ông-kok tō bē sī lí ê. Nā án-ne, lí pîn siáⁿ sù-un hō͘ góa? Góa teh oàn ê tō sī che. "Siáⁿ-hòe? m̄-bat kìⁿ-kòe yi, lí chit-ê siat-to̍k sîn-bêng ê poān-tô͘!" Don Quixote hoah-siaⁿ, "lí m̄-sī tú-chiah ùi yi hia chah sìn-sit hō͘ góa?"
"Góa ê ì-sù sī," Sancho kóng, "góa bô hit-chióng chheng-êng siông-sè khòaⁿ yi, chù-ì yi bí-māu a̍h bī-le̍k ê sè-chiat. Tān, chóng-thé lâi kóng, góa kah-ì yi."
"Taⁿ góa goân-liōng lí," Don Quixote kóng, "chhiáⁿ lí mā goân-liōng góa tùi lí chō-sêng ê siong-hāi. Lán lâng ê chhóng-pōng chóng-sī oh khòng-chè."
"He góa lí-kái," Sancho ìn, "góa ê chhóng-pōng tō sī hèng khui-chhùi, jím bē-tiâu tō kóng, siūⁿ tio̍h siáⁿ tō kóng chhut-lâi."
"Sui-bóng án-ne, Sancho," Don Quixote kóng, "tio̍h chù-ì lí kóng ê ōe, pit-kèng chúi-tháng chhiâng-chāi poa̍h-lo̍h chúi-chéⁿ [ì-sù chiap-kīn: àm-lō͘ kiâⁿ chē ē tú-tio̍h kúi] ... che góa bián kā lí kái-soeh."
"Hó lah, hó lah," Sancho kóng, "Sîn tī thiⁿ-téng, khòaⁿ chheng só͘-ū ê kúi-kè, ē phòaⁿ-toàn siáng ê siong-hāi tōa, sī góa kóng-ōe bô chún-chat, a̍h koh-hā chò liáu bô sek-ha̍p."

Sancho thâu sûi-sûi kiâⁿ kòe-khì, kiû chú-lâng ê chhiú. Don Quixote tō chin chun-giâm, chhun-chhiú hō͘ i, tán i chim-liáu koh kā i chiok-hok. Jiân-āu i kiò Sancho kiâⁿ tī thâu-chêng, in-ūi i ū būn-tê boeh mn̄g, ū iàu-kín ê tāi-chì boeh chham-siâng. Sancho chiàu chò, tán in siang-lâng tī thâu-chêng kiâⁿ chi̍t-tōaⁿ lō͘, Don Quixote tùi i kóng:
"Chū lí tńg-lâi, góa it-ti̍t bô ki-hōe a̍h sî-kan mn̄g lí iú-koan lí ê jīm-bū kap lí chah tńg-lâi ê hôe-tap ê sè-chiat, taⁿ lán ū ki-hōe kap sî-kan, chhiáⁿ m̄-thang sit-khì chit-ê lí ē-tàng kō͘ hó siau-sit tòa hō͘ góa khoài-lo̍k ê ki-hōe."
"Chhut-chāi koh-hā boeh mn̄g siáⁿ," Sancho hôe-tap, "góa lóng ē-tàng tùi-tap chū-chāi. M̄-koh, góa khún-kiû lí, sian-siⁿ, í-āu m̄-thang hiah-nī gâu khioh-hūn."
"Lí ná-ē án-ne kóng, Sancho?" Don Quixote kóng.
"Góa án-ne kóng," i kā ìn, "in-ūi tú-chiah kòng hit kúi-ē, khah sêng sī in-ūi chá-chêng hit-àm lán tiong-kan hō͘ ok-mô͘ jiá-khí ê oan-ke, m̄-sī in-ūi góa kóng Dulcinea Hj ê pháiⁿ-ōe. Góa ài yi, chun-kèng yi, kā yi tòng-chò sèng-bu̍t khòaⁿ-thāi, tan-sûn in-ūi yi sio̍k-tī koh-hā, sui-bóng yi m̄-sī siáⁿ sèng-bu̍t."
"Ūi-tio̍h lí ê miā, mài koh kóng chit-ê ōe-tê, Sancho," Don Quixote kóng, "he hō͘ góa bē sóng-khoài. Góa í-keng goân-liōng lí ah, lí eng-kai bat thiaⁿ lâng kóng, ‘sin ê chōe-kò, sin ê chhàm-hóe.’"

30.4 我 ê 衝碰 tō 是興開喙
"你這个臭小囝," 停一睏了後, 伊 tùi 伊講, "你想講你總是 ē-sái 干涉我, 總是 ē-sái 得失我, koh 總是得著我 ê 饒赦 hioh? 莫戇想 lah, 你這个褻瀆神明 ê 惡棍, 你定著是! 因為你竟然 tùi 無地比 ê Dulcinea 講彼款歹聽話. 你這个戇仔, lô͘-môa, 乞食, 你 kám 毋知, 若毋是她 hō͘ 我 ê 手骨有力, 我連 ka-cháu to 挼袂死?
"講看覓, 你這个毒舌 ê 人, 是 siáng 得著這个王國, 是 siáng 剁落巨人 ê 頭, 然後封你做侯爵 ah? 一切 chiah-ê, 我認定已經完成, 已經定著 ah. He 是 Dulcinea ê 力量, 是她利用我 ê 手骨做工具來完成 ê, kám 毋是? 她助我戰鬥, 助我得著勝利; 我因為她來活, 來喘氣; 我 ê 性命, 我 ê 存在 lóng 是因為有她. O, 你這个臭小囝, 實在忘恩負義, 你 ùi 塗粉 peh 到有頭銜 ê 領主, tùi 這種恩惠 ê 回報, 竟然是講這款話蹧躂賜恩 hō͘ 你 ê 人!"
Sancho 雖罔著驚, 但有聽清楚主人所講 ê 一切, 緊跤緊手 peh 起來, 走去 Dorothea 騎 ê 騾仔後面, ùi hia tùi 主人 án-ne 講:
"請問, 先生, 假使閣下決心毋娶這位大公主, 顯然 he 王國 tō 袂是你 ê. 若 án-ne, 你憑啥賜恩 hō͘ 我? 我 teh 怨 ê tō 是 che. 閣下無論如何, 請娶這位女王, che 機會袂輸 ùi 天頂 lak 落來, 以後你才轉去揣 Dulcinea Hj 未慢. 世界定著有國王鬥夥計 lah. 講著媠䆀, he 我無意見 lah. 若欲講實在, chit 兩位我 lóng 佮意, 雖罔我猶未見過 Dulcinea Hj."
"啥貨? m̄-bat 見過她, 你這个褻瀆神明 ê 叛徒!" Don Quixote 喝聲, "你毋是拄才 ùi 她 hia 扎信息 hō͘ 我?"
"我 ê 意思是," Sancho 講, "我無彼種清閒詳細看她, 注意她美貌 a̍h 魅力 ê 細節. 但, 總體來講, 我佮意她."
"今我原諒你," Don Quixote 講, "請你 mā 原諒我 tùi 你造成 ê 傷害. 咱人 ê 衝碰總是僫控制."
"He 我理解," Sancho 應, "我 ê 衝碰 tō 是興開喙, 忍袂牢 tō 講, 想著啥 tō 講出來."
"雖罔 án-ne, Sancho," Don Quixote 講, "著注意你講 ê 話, 畢竟水桶常在跋落水井 [意思接近: 暗路行濟 ē 拄著鬼] ... che 我免 kā 你解說."
"好 lah, 好 lah," Sancho 講, "神 tī 天頂, 看清所有 ê 詭計, ē 判斷 siáng ê 傷害大, 是我講話無撙節, a̍h 閣下做了無適合."
"好 ah lah," Dorothea 講, "Sancho, 緊去唚恁主人 ê 手, 請伊原諒, 日後著 khah 謹慎你 ê o-ló a̍h 責備. 毋通講 Toboso Hj ê 歹話, 我 tùi 她無了解, 但願意為她服務. 著相信神, 早慢你 ē 得著榮耀, 生活 kah ná 王子."
Sancho 頭垂垂行過去, 求主人 ê 手. Don Quixote tō 真尊嚴, 伸手 hō͘ 伊, 等伊唚了 koh kā 伊祝福. 然後伊叫 Sancho 行 tī 頭前, 因為伊有問題欲問, 有要緊 ê 代誌欲參詳. Sancho 照做, 等 in 雙人 tī 頭前行一段路, Don Quixote 對伊講:

"出在閣下欲問啥," Sancho 回答, "我 lóng ē-tàng 對答自在. M̄-koh, 我懇求你, 先生, 以後毋通 hiah-nī gâu 抾恨."
"你那會 án-ne 講, Sancho?" Don Quixote 講.
"我 án-ne 講," 伊 kā 應, "因為拄才摃 hit 幾下, khah 成是因為早前 hit 暗咱中間 hō͘ 惡魔惹起 ê 冤家, 毋是因為我講 Dulcinea Hj ê 歹話. 我愛她, 尊敬她, kā 她當做聖物看待, 單純因為她屬 tī 閣下, 雖罔她毋是啥聖物."
"為著你 ê 命, 莫 koh 講這个話題, Sancho," Don Quixote 講, "he hō͘ 我袂爽快. 我已經原諒你 ah, 你應該 bat 聽人講, ‘新 ê 罪過, 新 ê 懺悔.’"

“Do you think,” he said to him after a pause, “you scurvy clown, that you are to be always interfering with me, and that you are to be always offending and I always pardoning? Don’t fancy it, impious scoundrel, for that beyond a doubt thou art, since thou hast set thy tongue going against the peerless Dulcinea. Know you not, lout, vagabond, beggar, that were it not for the might that she infuses into my arm I should not have strength enough to kill a flea? /
Say, scoffer with a viper’s tongue, what think you has won this kingdom and cut off this giant’s head and made you a marquis (for all this I count as already accomplished and decided), but the might of Dulcinea, employing my arm as the instrument of her achievements? She fights in me and conquers in me, and I live and breathe in her, and owe my life and being to her. O whoreson scoundrel, how ungrateful you are, you see yourself raised from the dust of the earth to be a titled lord, and the return you make for so great a benefit is to speak evil of her who has conferred it upon you!”
Sancho was not so stunned but that he heard all his master said, and rising with some degree of nimbleness he ran to place himself behind Dorothea’s palfrey, and from that position he said to his master:
“Tell me, señor; if your worship is resolved not to marry this great princess, it is plain the kingdom will not be yours; and not being so, how can you bestow favours upon me? That is what I complain of. Let your worship at any rate marry this queen, now that we have got her here as if showered down from heaven, and afterwards you may go back to my lady Dulcinea; for there must have been kings in the world who kept mistresses. As to beauty, I have nothing to do with it; and if the truth is to be told, I like them both; though I have never seen the lady Dulcinea.”
“How! never seen her, blasphemous traitor!” exclaimed Don Quixote; “hast thou not just now brought me a message from her?”
“I mean,” said Sancho, “that I did not see her so much at my leisure that I could take particular notice of her beauty, or of her charms piecemeal; but taken in the lump I like her.”
“Now I forgive thee,” said Don Quixote; “and do thou forgive me the injury I have done thee; for our first impulses are not in our control.”
“That I see,” replied Sancho, “and with me the wish to speak is always the first impulse, and I cannot help saying, once at any rate, what I have on the tip of my tongue.”
“For all that, Sancho,” said Don Quixote, “take heed of what thou sayest, for the pitcher goes so often to the well—I need say no more to thee.”
“Well, well,” said Sancho, “God is in heaven, and sees all tricks, and will judge who does most harm, I in not speaking right, or your worship in not doing it.”
“That is enough,” said Dorothea; “run, Sancho, and kiss your lord’s hand and beg his pardon, and henceforward be more circumspect with your praise and abuse; and say nothing in disparagement of that lady Toboso, of whom I know nothing save that I am her servant; and put your trust in God, for you will not fail to obtain some dignity so as to live like a prince.”
Sancho advanced hanging his head and begged his master’s hand, which Don Quixote with dignity presented to him, giving him his blessing as soon as he had kissed it; he then bade him go on ahead a little, as he had questions to ask him and matters of great importance to discuss with him. Sancho obeyed, and when the two had gone some distance in advance Don Quixote said to him, /
“Since thy return I have had no opportunity or time to ask thee many particulars touching thy mission and the answer thou hast brought back, and now that chance has granted us the time and opportunity, deny me not the happiness thou canst give me by such good news.”
“Let your worship ask what you will,” answered Sancho, “for I shall find a way out of all as I found a way in; but I implore you, señor, not to be so revengeful in future.”
“Why dost thou say that, Sancho?” said Don Quixote.
“I say it,” he returned, “because those blows just now were more because of the quarrel the devil stirred up between us both the other night, than for what I said against my lady Dulcinea, whom I love and reverence as I would a relic—though there is nothing of that about her—merely as something belonging to your worship.”
“Say no more on that subject for thy life, Sancho,” said Don Quixote, “for it is displeasing to me; I have already pardoned thee for that, and thou knowest the common saying, ‘for a fresh sin a fresh penance.’”
