29.2 Kong-chú te̍k-pia̍t ùi Guinea lâi chhōe i

Cardenio ê ōe koh-khah hō͘ Dorothea tio̍h-kiaⁿ, m̄-chai án-chóaⁿ kám-siā i ê thê-gī. Yi chhì boeh chim i ê kha, tān-sī Cardenio m̄-khéng. Sîn-hū tō chhut-bīn, o-ló Cardenio ê kóng-hoat ū-lí, lo̍h-bóe koh chhéng-kiû, kiàn-gī, mā tok-chhiok in tòe i khì in chng, tī hia ē-tàng tit-tio̍h su-iàu ê mi̍h-kiāⁿ, koh kè-ōe án-chóaⁿ chhōe Don Fernando, a̍h kā Dorothea sàng tńg pē-bú tau, a̍h chò kî-thaⁿ in jīn-ûi sek-ha̍p ê tāi-chì.

"Nā án-ne," sîn-hū kóng, "bián iân-chhiân, taⁿ sûi hêng-tōng, in-ūi bô gî-būn, hó-ūn tng-teh kiâⁿ hiòng lán. Chi̍t-sìⁿ mn̂g í-keng ì-gōa ūi lí ê kái-thoat phah-khui, pho͘-pêⁿ lán ta̍t-sêng bo̍k-tek ê tō-lō͘."

Jiân-āu, Dorothea ùi chím-thâu-thò the̍h chhut chi̍t-tiâu hôa-lē ê thò-kûn kap chi̍t-niá chheⁿ-sek ê iù-pò͘ hong-moa, koh ùi chi̍t-ê sè a̍p-á the̍h chhut chi̍t-tiâu phoa̍h-liān kap chi̍t-kóa chong-sek-phín. Ta̍k-ê kài him-sióng yi ê iu-ngá, hong-tō͘, kap bí-māu, jīn-ûi Don Fernando kī-choa̍t chit-chióng bī-le̍k, si̍t-chāi sī bô phín-bī. Sancho Panza siōng-kài him-sióng yi, in-ūi i kám-kak (che mā sī sū-si̍t), chit-sì-lâng m̄-bat khòaⁿ kòe chiah súi ê lú-chú. I kip-chhiat mn̄g sîn-hū, chit-ūi bí-lē hu-jîn sī siáng, yi tī chit-ê hong-kau iá-gōa chhòng siáⁿ-hòe.

"Chit-ūi súi hu-jîn, Sancho hiaⁿ-tī," sîn-hū kā ìn, "sī úi-tāi Micomicon ông-kok ê chiàⁿ-thoân kè-sêng-jîn. Yi lâi chia chhōe lín chú-lâng, boeh chhiáⁿ i ūi yi chú-chhî chèng-gī, in-ūi ū chi̍t-ê siâ-ok ê kī-jîn khi-hū yi. Lín chú-lâng sī chi̍t-ūi iu-siù ê khî-sū, miâ-siaⁿ thoân chin hn̄g, chit-ūi kong-chú te̍k-pia̍t ùi Guinea lâi chhōe i."

29.2 公主特別 ùi Guinea 來揣伊

Cardenio ê 話 koh-khah hō͘ Dorothea 著驚, 毋知按怎感謝伊 ê 提議. 她試欲唚伊 ê 跤, 但是 Cardenio 毋肯. 神父 tō 出面, o-ló Cardenio ê 講法有理, 落尾 koh 請求, 建議, mā 督促 in 綴伊去 in 庄, tī hia ē-tàng 得著需要 ê 物件, koh 計畫按怎揣 Don Fernando, a̍h kā Dorothea 送轉爸母 tau, a̍h 做其他 in 認為適合 ê 代誌. 

Cardenio kap Dorothea 感謝伊, mā 接受伊提議 ê 好主意. 剃頭師, 原本一直恬恬注意聽, 這陣 mā 講一寡好意 ê 話, 袂較輸神父 ê, 講, 只要對 in 有利益, 伊願意為 in 效勞. 伊 koh 簡單 kā in 解說 in 來 chia ê 目的, 以及 Don Quixote 起痟 ê 奇怪情形, 講, in tng-teh 等彼个去揣主人 ê Don Quixote ê 侍從. Cardenio 記起 ká-ná 是一个眠夢, 伊 bat kap Don Quixote 冤家, tō kā he 講 hō͘ 逐个聽. 但伊講袂出是啥因端 kap 伊 tak.

Tī 這个時陣, in 聽著一个喝聲, 認出 he 是 Sancho Panza. Tī 分開 ê 位揣無 in, 伊大聲 teh 叫 in. In 過去 kap 伊相會, 問伊 Don Quixote ê 狀況. 伊 kā in 講, 伊揣著伊, 看伊 kan-ta 穿 siatchuh, 瘦 pi-pa, 黃 phí-phí, 枵 kah 半死, 為 Dulcinea Hj 大氣喘袂離. 雖罔伊 kā 伊講, Dulcinea 命令伊離開彼个所在, 緊去 El Toboso, 她 tī hia 等伊, 但伊講, tī 猶未做出 ē-tit 報答她 ê 恩惠 ê 事蹟進前, 伊決心毋出現 tī 她 ê 美貌面前. 若 án-ne 繼續落去, 伊可能無機會成做註定 ê 皇帝, 甚至連上起碼 ê 大主教 mā 無. 所致, 逐个著好好考慮, 看按怎才 ē-tàng kā 伊 ùi hia 𤆬走.

神父應講, 免著急, 毋管伊按怎想, in 定著 ē kā 伊𤆬走. 然後, 伊 koh kā Cardenio kap Dorothea 講起 in 原本計畫欲按怎醫治 Don Quixote, 上無 kā 伊𤆬轉厝. 聽著 che, Dorothea 講, 她比剃頭師 koh-khah 適合裝扮做落難 ê 姑娘, 尤其她身邊有適合這个角色 ê 服裝. 她請 in kā 這个角色交 hō͘ 她, 她 ē-sái 做 kah 每一个細節 lóng 符合計畫. 因為她有讀袂少騎士小說, 知影落難姑娘著 kō͘ 啥款姿態請求遊俠騎士 ê 救助.

"若 án-ne," 神父講, "免 iân-chhiân, 今隨行動, 因為無疑問, 好運 tng-teh 行向咱. 一扇門已經意外 ūi 你 ê 解脫拍開, 鋪平咱達成目的 ê 道路."

然後, Dorothea ùi 枕頭套提出一條華麗 ê 套裙 kap 一領青色 ê 幼布風幔, koh ùi 一个細盒仔提出一條袚鍊 kap 一寡裝飾品. Kō͘ chiah-ê, 一下仔她 tō 打扮 kah ná 一个好額貴婦. Chiah-ê lóng 是 ùi 厝 ni̍h 扎出來 ê, 需要 ê 時 thang 用, 但一直到今才用著.

逐个 kài 欣賞她 ê 優雅, 風度, kap 美貌, 認為 Don Fernando 拒絕這種魅力, 實在是無品味. Sancho Panza siōng-kài 欣賞她, 因為伊感覺 (che mā 是事實), 這世人 m̄-bat 看過 chiah 媠 ê 女子. 伊急切問神父, 這位美麗夫人是 siáng, 她 tī 這个荒郊野外創啥貨.

"這位媠夫人, Sancho 兄弟," 神父 kā 應, "是偉大 Micomicon 王國 ê 正傳繼承人. 她來 chia 揣恁主人, 欲請伊為她主持正義, 因為有一个邪惡 ê 巨人欺負她. 恁主人是一位優秀 ê 騎士, 名聲傳真遠, 這位公主特別 ùi Guinea 來揣伊."

Cardenio’s words completed the astonishment of Dorothea, and not knowing how to return thanks for such an offer, she attempted to kiss his feet; but Cardenio would not permit it, and the licentiate replied for both, commended the sound reasoning of Cardenio, and lastly, begged, advised, and urged them to come with him to his village, where they might furnish themselves with what they needed, and take measures to discover Don Fernando, or restore Dorothea to her parents, or do what seemed to them most advisable. /

Cardenio and Dorothea thanked him, and accepted the kind offer he made them; and the barber, who had been listening to all attentively and in silence, on his part some kindly words also, and with no less good-will than the curate offered his services in any way that might be of use to them. He also explained to them in a few words the object that had brought them there, and the strange nature of Don Quixote’s madness, and how they were waiting for his squire, who had gone in search of him. Like the recollection of a dream, the quarrel he had had with Don Quixote came back to Cardenio’s memory, and he described it to the others; but he was unable to say what the dispute was about.

At this moment they heard a shout, and recognised it as coming from Sancho Panza, who, not finding them where he had left them, was calling aloud to them. They went to meet him, and in answer to their inquiries about Don Quixote, he told them how he had found him stripped to his shirt, lank, yellow, half dead with hunger, and sighing for his lady Dulcinea; and although he had told him that she commanded him to quit that place and come to El Toboso, where she was expecting him, he had answered that he was determined not to appear in the presence of her beauty until he had done deeds to make him worthy of her favour; and if this went on, Sancho said, he ran the risk of not becoming an emperor as in duty bound, or even an archbishop, which was the least he could be; for which reason they ought to consider what was to be done to get him away from there. /

The licentiate in reply told him not to be uneasy, for they would fetch him away in spite of himself. He then told Cardenio and Dorothea what they had proposed to do to cure Don Quixote, or at any rate take him home; upon which Dorothea said that she could play the distressed damsel better than the barber; especially as she had there the dress in which to do it to the life, and that they might trust to her acting the part in every particular requisite for carrying out their scheme, for she had read a great many books of chivalry, and knew exactly the style in which afflicted damsels begged boons of knights-errant.

“In that case,” said the curate, “there is nothing more required than to set about it at once, for beyond a doubt fortune is declaring itself in our favour, since it has so unexpectedly begun to open a door for your relief, and smoothed the way for us to our object.”

Dorothea then took out of her pillow-case a complete petticoat of some rich stuff, and a green mantle of some other fine material, and a necklace and other ornaments out of a little box, and with these in an instant she so arrayed herself that she looked like a great and rich lady. All this, and more, she said, she had taken from home in case of need, but that until then she had had no occasion to make use of it. /

They were all highly delighted with her grace, air, and beauty, and declared Don Fernando to be a man of very little taste when he rejected such charms. But the one who admired her most was Sancho Panza, for it seemed to him (what indeed was true) that in all the days of his life he had never seen such a lovely creature; and he asked the curate with great eagerness who this beautiful lady was, and what she wanted in these out-of-the-way quarters.

“This fair lady, brother Sancho,” replied the curate, “is no less a personage than the heiress in the direct male line of the great kingdom of Micomicon, who has come in search of your master to beg a boon of him, which is that he redress a wrong or injury that a wicked giant has done her; and from the fame as a good knight which your master has acquired far and wide, this princess has come from Guinea to seek him.”
