26.3 Sancho chhōe bô pit-kì-phō͘
"Kàu-sū Ss, hit-ê khiâ-bé--ê kám m̄-sī Sancho Panza ah? Lán mō͘-hiám-ka ê koán-ke bat kóng-kòe, i tòe yin chú-lâng lī-khui khì, chò i ê sū-chiông."
"Bô m̄-tio̍h," kàu-sū kóng, "á hit-chiah tō sī lán pêng-iú Don Quixote ê bé."
Chit nn̄g-lâng tùi i hiah-nī se̍k-sāi, goân-lâi in tō sī in chng ê sîn-hū kap thì-thâu-sai. Kāng-khoán mā sī in chip-hêng kiám-cha kap sio chheh ê tāi-chì. Chi̍t-ē jīn-chhut Sancho Panza kap Rocinante, in-ūi kip boeh thàm-thiaⁿ Don Quixote ê siau-sit, in tō ná kiâⁿ óa, ná kiò i ê miâ, sîn-hū kóng:
"Sancho Panza pêng-iú, lín chú-lâng tī tó?"

"Bô su-iàu kā góa ui-hia̍p," Sancho kóng, "in-ūi góa m̄-sī ē chhiúⁿ-lâng a̍h thâi-lâng ê lâng. Sûi lâng ū ka-tī ê miā-ūn, a̍h sī iû Sîn chù-tiāⁿ. Goán chú-lâng tng-teh chiàu i ê ì-sù tī chhim-soaⁿ nâ-lāi khó͘-siu."

Sancho hoat-hiān chhōe bô phō͘-á ê sî, i ê bīn-sek sí-pe̍h, tō kín-kín kui-sin chhiau thàu-thàu, hoat-kak bô-tè chhōe ah, tō bô-kóng bô-tàⁿ kō͘ siang-chhiú khì khiú ka-tī ê chhùi-chhiu, chhoah lak boeh kui-pòaⁿ. "Tàu-té sī án-chóaⁿ?" Sancho ìn, "ná-ē kín kah bián chi̍t ba̍k nih, góa phàng-kìⁿ 3-chiah lî-á, ta̍k-chiah ta̍t chi̍t-chō siâⁿ-pó?"
"Án-chóaⁿ kóng?" thì-thâu-sai kóng.
"Góa kā pit-kì phō͘ phàng-kiàn ah," Sancho kóng, "lāi-bīn ū hō͘ Dulcinea ê phe, koh ū goán chú-lâng chhiam-miâ ê pîn-kì, he chí-sī in gōe-seng-lú ùi in tau ê 4- a̍h 5-chiah lî-á tang-tiong kau 3-chiah hō͘ góa."
I koh kā in kóng-khí Dapple hông thau khan khì ê tāi-chì.

26.3 Sancho 揣無筆記簿
"教士 Ss, 彼个騎馬 ê kám 毋是 Sancho Panza ah? 咱冒險家 ê 管家 bat 講過, 伊綴姻主人離開去, 做伊 ê 侍從."
"無毋著," 教士講, "á 彼隻 tō 是咱朋友 Don Quixote ê 馬."
Chit 兩人 tùi 伊 hiah-nī 熟似, 原來 in tō 是 in 庄 ê 神父 kap 剃頭師. 仝款 mā sī in 執行檢查 kap 燒冊 ê 代誌. 一下認出 Sancho Panza kap Rocinante, 因為急欲探聽 Don Quixote ê 消息, in tō ná 行倚, ná 叫伊 ê 名, 神父講:
"Sancho Panza 朋友, 恁主人 tī 佗?"
Sancho 隨 tō 認出 in, 但決定欲保密伊告別主人 ê 地點 kap 彼時 ê 狀況, tō應講, 主人 tī 某一个所在, tng-teh 處理 tùi 伊非常重要 ê 代誌, tō 講挖掉伊 ê 目睭, 伊 mā 袂講出來.
"袂使, 袂使," 剃頭師講, "你若毋 kā 阮講伊 tī 佗位, Sancho Panza, 阮 tō ē 懷疑, 其實阮已經 án-ne 懷疑, 你 kā 伊謀殺 koh kā 搶劫, 因為你騎 ê 是伊 ê 馬. 事實上, 你 tio̍h 交出老馬 ê 主人, 若無, 你 tio̍h 承擔後果."
"無需要 kā 我威脅," Sancho 講, "因為我毋是 ē 搶人 a̍h 刣人 ê 人. 隨人有 ka-tī ê 命運, a̍h 是由 Sîn 註定. 阮主人 tng-teh 照伊 ê 意思 tī 深山林內苦修."
然後, 一下開喙伊隨講無停, 講出伊按怎離開伊, 主人拄著啥危險, 以及伊扎一張批欲 hō͘ Dulcinea del Toboso Hj, its Lorenzo Corchuelo ê 查某囝, 主人愛她愛 kah 欲死.
聽 Sancho Panza kā 講 ê 話, in lóng 著一驚. 雖罔 in 知影 Don Quixote 起痟, 知彼个性質, 但逐擺聽著 che, lóng koh hō͘ in 感覺好奇. 然後 in 請 Sancho Panza hō͘ in 看伊扎欲 hō͘ Dulcinea del Toboso Hj ê hit 張批. 伊講, he 是寫 tī 一本筆記簿, 主人 ê 交代是, tio̍h tī 到位 ê 第一个村庄揣人 kā 抄 tī 紙頂.
聽著 che, 神父講, 伊若 kā 簿仔交 hō͘ 伊看, 伊 ē-sái kā 抄 kah 足好勢. Sancho kā 手伸入胸坎揣筆記簿, m̄-koh 揣無, 假使伊繼續揣, 伊 mā 是揣袂著, 因為簿仔 tī Don Quixote hia, 根本無交 hō͘ Sancho, á Sancho mā 根本無要求伊交簿仔 hō͘ 伊.
Sancho 發現揣無簿仔 ê 時, 伊 ê 面色死白, tō 緊緊規身 chhiau 透透, 發覺無地揣 ah, tō 無講無呾 kō͘ 雙手去搝 ka-tī ê 喙鬚, 掣 lak 欲規半. 然後, koh 向 ka-tī ê 喙䫌 kap 鼻, 緊 koh 連紲搧五六下, 搧 kah 流血流滴.
看著 án-ne, 神父 kap 剃頭師問伊到底是按怎, 那欲 án-ne 對待 ka-tī.
"到底是按怎?" Sancho 應, "那會緊 kah 免一目 nih, 我 phàng-kìⁿ 3 隻驢仔, 逐隻值一座城堡?"
"按怎講?" 剃頭師講.
"我 kā 筆記簿 phàng-kiàn ah," Sancho 講, "內面有 hō͘ Dulcinea ê 批, koh 有阮主人簽名 ê 憑據, he 指示 in 外甥女 ùi in 兜 ê 4- a̍h 5 隻驢仔當中交 3 隻 hō͘ 我."
伊 koh kā in 講起 Dapple hông 偷牽去 ê 代誌.

“Señor licentiate, is not he on the horse there Sancho Panza who, our adventurer’s housekeeper told us, went off with her master as esquire?”
“So it is,” said the licentiate, “and that is our friend Don Quixote’s horse;” /
and if they knew him so well it was because they were the curate and the barber of his own village, the same who had carried out the scrutiny and sentence upon the books; and as soon as they recognised Sancho Panza and Rocinante, being anxious to hear of Don Quixote, they approached, and calling him by his name the curate said, /
“Friend Sancho Panza, where is your master?”
Sancho recognised them at once, and determined to keep secret the place and circumstances where and under which he had left his master, so he replied that his master was engaged in a certain quarter on a certain matter of great importance to him which he could not disclose for the eyes in his head.
“Nay, nay,” said the barber, “if you don’t tell us where he is, Sancho Panza, we will suspect as we suspect already, that you have murdered and robbed him, for here you are mounted on his horse; in fact, you must produce the master of the hack, or else take the consequences.”
“There is no need of threats with me,” said Sancho, “for I am not a man to rob or murder anybody; let his own fate, or God who made him, kill each one; my master is engaged very much to his taste doing penance in the midst of these mountains;” /
and then, offhand and without stopping, he told them how he had left him, what adventures had befallen him, and how he was carrying a letter to the lady Dulcinea del Toboso, the daughter of Lorenzo Corchuelo, with whom he was over head and ears in love. /
They were both amazed at what Sancho Panza told them; for though they were aware of Don Quixote’s madness and the nature of it, each time they heard of it they were filled with fresh wonder. They then asked Sancho Panza to show them the letter he was carrying to the lady Dulcinea del Toboso. He said it was written in a notebook, and that his master’s directions were that he should have it copied on paper at the first village he came to. /
On this the curate said if he showed it to him, he himself would make a fair copy of it. Sancho put his hand into his bosom in search of the notebook but could not find it, nor, if he had been searching until now, could he have found it, for Don Quixote had kept it, and had never given it to him, nor had he himself thought of asking for it. /
When Sancho discovered he could not find the book his face grew deadly pale, and in great haste he again felt his body all over, and seeing plainly it was not to be found, without more ado he seized his beard with both hands and plucked away half of it, and then, as quick as he could and without stopping, gave himself half a dozen cuffs on the face and nose till they were bathed in blood.
Seeing this, the curate and the barber asked him what had happened him that he gave himself such rough treatment.
“What should happen to me?” replied Sancho, “but to have lost from one hand to the other, in a moment, three ass-colts, each of them like a castle?”
“How is that?” said the barber.
“I have lost the notebook,” said Sancho, “that contained the letter to Dulcinea, and an order signed by my master in which he directed his niece to give me three ass-colts out of four or five he had at home;” and he then told them about the loss of Dapple.
