Put-jî-kò, thâu-chêng kóng-kòe, Don Quixote kám-kak ka-tī sin-thé khin-sang, í-keng ho̍k-goân, kip boeh kín chhut-hoat khì lāng-hiám. Che 做完了後, tī 現場, 伊急欲親身試看覓, 這種珍貴藥水 ê 功效, ná teh án-ne 想, 伊 tō kā choaⁿ 好, 罐仔貯袂落, 留 tī 豬皮袋內底 ê 藥水, 啉倚近欲 1 quart [1.14 liter]. Ná teh 啉 ê 時, 伊隨開始吐, 吐 kah 胃 péng 過, 疼 koh 糾筋, 出一軀汗, 自 án-ne 伊叫 in kā 伊崁被, 留伊一人倒 tī 眠床. 伊連睏 3 點鐘, 醒過來了後, 感覺規身輕鬆, 身軀袂 koh 疼, 認為傷已經治療好勢, 深深相信 ka-tī 已經製造 Fierabras 仙藥, 有這種藥了後, 伊免 koh 驚面對任何 ê 破壞, 戰鬥, a̍h 相拍, 毋管 he 有 gōa-nī 危險.

Sancho Panza mā 感覺主人身體好起來 kài 神奇, tō 求伊 kā 賰 tī 豬皮袋 ê mi̍h hō͘ 伊啉, he 猶閣賰袂少. Don Quixote 同意, 伊 tō kō͘ 雙手 kā 捀起來, 滿滿 ê 感激 kap 誠意, 大喙 kā 灌, 袂比主人啉較少. M̄-koh, 事實是 án-ne, 可憐 Sancho ê 胃腸無像主人 ê hiah 幼秀, 吐進前, 伊先感覺絞疼 kap péng 腹, 出規身汗 koh 頭眩目暗, hō͘ 伊感覺得欲死, 艱苦 kah 袂堪得, ná kàn-kiāu he 藥水, mā kàn-kiāu he hō͘ 伊藥水 ê 諞仔. 

Don Qúixote 看伊 chit-lō 款勢, tō 講:

"我相信, Sancho, 你這款反應, 是因為你無騎士名號 ê 緣故. 我相信這个藥水對毋是騎士 ê 人無適合."

"閣下既然知影," Sancho kā 應喙, "是按怎欲 hō͘ 我啉 ah? 我有夠衰, 連帶規家族!"

這時陣, 藥水起作用, 可憐 ê 侍從開始吐 koh làu, kā 伊倒 ê 草蓆仔 kap 崁 ê 帆布毯仔穢 kah 無一位清氣. 伊拚一軀大汗, koh 糾筋 phi̍h-phi̍h 掣. 毋但伊 ka-tī, 在場 ê 人 lóng 想講伊得欲無命 ah. 這陣風雨 kap 苦難維持大概 2 點鐘. 落尾, 無像主人 án-ne, 伊 kan-ta 是感覺虛 koh 忝, 強欲擋袂牢.

不而過, 頭前講過, Don Quixote 感覺 ka-tī 身體輕鬆, 已經復原, 急欲緊出發去弄險. 在伊看, lú tī chia 拖延時間, lú 對不起世界 kap 需要伊幫贊 kap 保護 ê 人. 尤其是, 今伊對 ka-tī ê 藥水有把握, 有信心. 受著這種興頭 ê 推捒, 伊親身掛好勢 Rocinante ê 馬鞍, koh kā Sancho ê 驢仔搭好揹鞍, 替 Sancho 穿衫, 扶伊上驢仔. 然後, 伊 ka-tī 騎上馬, 來到客棧 ê 一个壁角, 攑 chhāi tī hia ê 一支矛當做長槍用.

客棧內面有不止 20 人, lóng 徛 leh 看伊. 店主查某囝 mā 仝款 teh 看伊, á 伊 ê 目睭 mā 一直無徙開她 ê 身軀, koh 不時深深吐大氣. M̄-koh, 逐个 lóng 認為伊 ê 吐大氣, 是因為箅仔骨 teh 疼, 尤其是前暗有看著伊抹藥膏 ê 人, koh-khah 是 án-ne 想.

This being accomplished, he felt anxious to make trial himself, on the spot, of the virtue of this precious balsam, as he considered it, and so he drank near a quart of what could not be put into the flask and remained in the pigskin in which it had been boiled; but scarcely had he done drinking when he began to vomit in such a way that nothing was left in his stomach, and with the pangs and spasms of vomiting he broke into a profuse sweat, on account of which he bade them cover him up and leave him alone. They did so, and he lay sleeping more than three hours, at the end of which he awoke and felt very great bodily relief and so much ease from his bruises that he thought himself quite cured, and verily believed he had hit upon the balsam of Fierabras; and that with this remedy he might thenceforward, without any fear, face any kind of destruction, battle, or combat, however perilous it might be.

Sancho Panza, who also regarded the amendment of his master as miraculous, begged him to give him what was left in the pigskin, which was no small quantity. Don Quixote consented, and he, taking it with both hands, in good faith and with a better will, gulped down and drained off very little less than his master. But the fact is, that the stomach of poor Sancho was of necessity not so delicate as that of his master, and so, before vomiting, he was seized with such gripings and retchings, and such sweats and faintness, that verily and truly he believed his last hour had come, and finding himself so racked and tormented he cursed the balsam and the thief that had given it to him.

Don Quixote seeing him in this state said, /

“It is my belief, Sancho, that this mischief comes of thy not being dubbed a knight, for I am persuaded this liquor cannot be good for those who are not so.”

“If your worship knew that,” returned Sancho—“woe betide me and all my kindred!—why did you let me taste it?”

At this moment the draught took effect, and the poor squire began to discharge both ways at such a rate that the rush mat on which he had thrown himself and the canvas blanket he had covering him were fit for nothing afterwards. He sweated and perspired with such paroxysms and convulsions that not only he himself but all present thought his end had come. This tempest and tribulation lasted about two hours, at the end of which he was left, not like his master, but so weak and exhausted that he could not stand. /

Don Quixote, however, who, as has been said, felt himself relieved and well, was eager to take his departure at once in quest of adventures, as it seemed to him that all the time he loitered there was a fraud upon the world and those in it who stood in need of his help and protection, all the more when he had the security and confidence his balsam afforded him; and so, urged by this impulse, he saddled Rocinante himself and put the pack-saddle on his squire’s beast, whom likewise he helped to dress and mount the ass; after which he mounted his horse and turning to a corner of the inn he laid hold of a pike that stood there, to serve him by way of a lance. /

All that were in the inn, who were more than twenty persons, stood watching him; the innkeeper’s daughter was likewise observing him, and he too never took his eyes off her, and from time to time fetched a sigh that he seemed to pluck up from the depths of his bowels; but they all thought it must be from the pain he felt in his ribs; at any rate they who had seen him plastered the night before thought so.
