7.2 穩 tak-tak 做其中一个附屬國 ê 國王
然後, 簡單講, 伊恬恬留 tī 厝 ni̍h 15 工, 無顯示任何早前幻想 ê 影跡. Tī 這期間, 伊 kap 兩个老兄, its 神父 kap 剃頭師, 熱烈討論伊 ê 觀點, 講, 遊俠騎士是世界所最需要, 伊欲實現遊俠騎士 ê 復興. 神父有時仔 kap 伊諍, 有時仔又表示同意, 因為若無 án-ne 提防, 伊 tō 無法度𤆬伊回復理智.
仝這時, Don Quixote 下工夫 tī 一个農夫, he 是 in 厝邊, 一个老實人 (假使咱 ē-sái án-ne 稱呼散赤人), m̄-koh 頭殼無 kài 巧. 總講, 伊 tiu-tiu 勸伊, kā 伊姑情 koh 應允伊項項代誌, 彼个小人物才決定欲綴伊, 做伊 ê 侍從. Don Quixote koh kā 伊講, 著隨時準備快樂出發, 因為隨時 ē 發生冒險 ê 代誌, 可能一目 nih tō ē 得著一个島, 伊 tō ē hō͘ 伊做彼个島 ê 總督. 看 tī tt 這款 ê 約束, Sancho Panza (彼个農夫 ê 名) 離開某囝, 來做厝邊 ê 侍從.
Don Quixote koh-lâi 開始傱錢. 伊賣 che koh 當 he, 逐擺 lóng 叫無價, 總算窮有夠一筆錢. 伊向朋友借一个圓盾, koh 盡量 kā he 破頭盔修理好勢, tō 通知侍從 Sancho 預定欲出發 ê 時日, 叫伊著 kā 上需要 ê 物件準備好勢. 上重要 ê, 伊交代伊著扎馬鞍袋.
對方講, 伊 ē 扎, koh 講伊欲騎一隻好 ê 驢仔, 因為伊跤袂擋得行遠路. 關係驢仔, Don Quixote 小可躊躇一下, kám bat 有遊俠騎士 ê 侍從騎驢仔, m̄-koh 想無這款 ê 例. 不而過, 伊猶是同意伊先 án-ne, 按算有機會奪拄著 ê 第一个無禮騎士 ê 馬, 才 hō͘ 伊騎較體面 leh.
照客棧店主 ê 建議, 伊為 ka-tī 準備 siatchuh kap 其他會得扎 ê 物件. 一切準備好勢, 某一暗, Sancho Panza 無向某囝, Don Quixote mā 無向管家 kap 外甥女告辭, 伊 tō 離開本庄, 無人看見. In 連暝趕路, 到天光 ê 時, 準講有人欲揣, in mā 已經袂 hō͘ 人發現 ah.
Sancho 騎伊 ê 驢仔, ná 像一个族長, 扎馬鞍袋 kap 酒囊, 急切欲做島嶼 ê 總督, 主人有 án-ne kap 伊約束. Don Quixote 決定欲行頂擺行過 ê 路, 經過 Campo Montiel, 這擺行起來較輕鬆, 因為今是清早, 日光斜斜照 tī 身軀, 袂感覺刺疫.
Sancho Panza tùi 主人講:
"閣下著注意, 遊俠騎士 Ss, 毋通袂記得你允我 ê 島嶼, 毋管伊 gōa 大, 我 to ē 管理好勢."
Don Quixote án-ne kā 應:
"Sancho Panza, 我 ê 好朋友, 你著知影, 古早 ê 遊俠騎士真時行, hō͘ in ê 侍從做征服來 ê 島嶼 a̍h 王國 ê 總督, 我絕對袂破壞這个好習慣. 顛倒是, 我欲做 koh-khah 好, 因為 in 有時, a̍h 是 tiāⁿ-tiāⁿ, 著等到侍從老, 服務有夠額, 日暝食苦了後, 才肯封 in 一个伯爵 ê 頭銜, a̍h 是極加封 in 做山谷 a̍h 省份 ê 侯爵. 但是, 只要你我活著, 我完全 ē-tàng tī 六日以內征服一个王國, 以及伊 ê 附屬國, án-ne 你 tō ē-tàng 穩 tak-tak 做其中一个附屬國 ê 國王. "Án-ne 來講," Sancho Panza 講, "我若成做你所講 ê 奇蹟其中 ê 一个國王, 阮查某人 Juana Gutierrez tō ē 是王后, á 阮囝 tō lóng 是王子 ah neh."
"Hēⁿ ah, che kám 有啥疑問?" Don Quixote 講.
"我懷疑," Sancho Panza 講, "因為我相信, tō 講神 ná 落雨 án-ne 落王國, mā 無一个 ē 落 tī [阮牽手] Mari Gutierrez ê 頭殼. 我 kā 你講, 先生, 她一屑仔 to 毋值做王后. 做伯爵夫人較差不多, he mā 著老天幫忙."
"Hō͘ 天去安排 lah, Sancho," Don Quixote kā 應, "神 ē hō͘ 她上適合 ê mi̍h. M̄-koh 免 siuⁿ 看輕 ka-tī, 上無你著做一个省 ê 總督."
"我袂看輕 ka-tī," Sancho án-ne 回答, "因為我有閣下這種好主人, 你 ē hō͘ 我上適合我 ê."

In short, then, he remained at home fifteen days very quietly without showing any signs of a desire to take up with his former delusions, and during this time he held lively discussions with his two gossips, the curate and the barber, on the point he maintained, that knights-errant were what the world stood most in need of, and that in him was to be accomplished the revival of knight-errantry. The curate sometimes contradicted him, sometimes agreed with him, for if he had not observed this precaution he would have been unable to bring him to reason.
Meanwhile Don Quixote worked upon a farm labourer, a neighbour of his, an honest man (if indeed that title can be given to him who is poor), but with very little wit in his pate. In a word, he so talked him over, and with such persuasions and promises, that the poor clown made up his mind to sally forth with him and serve him as esquire. Don Quixote, among other things, told him he ought to be ready to go with him gladly, because any moment an adventure might occur that might win an island in the twinkling of an eye and leave him governor of it. On these and the like promises Sancho Panza (for so the labourer was called) left wife and children, and engaged himself as esquire to his neighbour.

Don Quixote next set about getting some money; and selling one thing and pawning another, and making a bad bargain in every case, he got together a fair sum. He provided himself with a buckler, which he begged as a loan from a friend, and, restoring his battered helmet as best he could, he warned his squire Sancho of the day and hour he meant to set out, that he might provide himself with what he thought most needful. Above all, he charged him to take alforjas with him. /
The other said he would, and that he meant to take also a very good ass he had, as he was not much given to going on foot. About the ass, Don Quixote hesitated a little, trying whether he could call to mind any knight-errant taking with him an esquire mounted on ass-back, but no instance occurred to his memory. For all that, however, he determined to take him, intending to furnish him with a more honourable mount when a chance of it presented itself, by appropriating the horse of the first discourteous knight he encountered. /
Himself he provided with shirts and such other things as he could, according to the advice the host had given him; all which being done, without taking leave, Sancho Panza of his wife and children, or Don Quixote of his housekeeper and niece, they sallied forth unseen by anybody from the village one night, and made such good way in the course of it that by daylight they held themselves safe from discovery, even should search be made for them.
Sancho rode on his ass like a patriarch, with his alforjas and bota, and longing to see himself soon governor of the island his master had promised him. Don Quixote decided upon taking the same route and road he had taken on his first journey, that over the Campo de Montiel, which he travelled with less discomfort than on the last occasion, for, as it was early morning and the rays of the sun fell on them obliquely, the heat did not distress them.
And now said Sancho Panza to his master, /
“Your worship will take care, Señor Knight-errant, not to forget about the island you have promised me, for be it ever so big I’ll be equal to governing it.”
To which Don Quixote replied, /
“Thou must know, friend Sancho Panza, that it was a practice very much in vogue with the knights-errant of old to make their squires governors of the islands or kingdoms they won, and I am determined that there shall be no failure on my part in so liberal a custom; on the contrary, I mean to improve upon it, for they sometimes, and perhaps most frequently, waited until their squires were old, and then when they had had enough of service and hard days and worse nights, they gave them some title or other, of count, or at the most marquis, of some valley or province more or less; but if thou livest and I live, it may well be that before six days are over, I may have won some kingdom that has others dependent upon it, which will be just the thing to enable thee to be crowned king of one of them. Nor needst thou count this wonderful, for things and chances fall to the lot of such knights in ways so unexampled and unexpected that I might easily give thee even more than I promise thee.”
“In that case,” said Sancho Panza, “if I should become a king by one of those miracles your worship speaks of, even Juana Gutierrez, my old woman, would come to be queen and my children infantes.”
“Well, who doubts it?” said Don Quixote.
“I doubt it,” replied Sancho Panza, “because for my part I am persuaded that though God should shower down kingdoms upon earth, not one of them would fit the head of Mari Gutierrez. Let me tell you, señor, she is not worth two maravedis for a queen; countess will fit her better, and that only with God’s help.”
“Leave it to God, Sancho,” returned Don Quixote, “for he will give her what suits her best; but do not undervalue thyself so much as to come to be content with anything less than being governor of a province.”
“I will not, señor,” answered Sancho, “specially as I have a man of such quality for a master in your worship, who will know how to give me all that will be suitable for me and that I can bear.”
