Chit-chióng chin-chêng, liân chio̍h-thâu chò ê sim to ē kám-tōng, koh-khah bián kóng Hoat-koaⁿ; i sī chi̍t-ê cheng-bêng ê lâng, khòaⁿ ē-kàu chit-mn̂g hun-in tùi cha-bó͘-kiáⁿ ê lī-ek. M̄-koh, i nā ē-tàng, siōng-hó sī seng tit-tio̍h Don Luis in lāu-pē ê tông-ì. I thiaⁿ-kóng Don Luis ê lāu-pē tng-teh boeh ūi hāu-seⁿ cheng-chhú chi̍t-ê chiok-ūi.

44.3 請這時 tō 接納我做你 ê 囝婿
聽著 che, Don Quixote 激 kah 真平靜, 無要無緊 kā 應:
"美麗 ê 姑娘, 現此時你 ê 要求無著時, 因為我袂當 koh 參加任何行動, 著等到我 kap 別人 ê 約束有好 ê 結果. M̄-koh, 我今 ē-tàng 為你做 ê 是 án-ne: 走去 kā 恁老爸講, 叫伊 tī 相拍中間著盡量堅持, 毋通拍輸. 等我去請求 Micomicona 公主允准我來幫贊伊. 她若答應, 我保證一定 ē 來救伊."
"阿娘 oeh," 徛 tī 邊仔 ê Maritornes 喝聲講: "等你去得著允准, 阮主人已經去到另外世界 ah lah."
"我先離開, 小姐, 去提我所講 ê 允准," Don Quixote 回答, "我若得著, tō 講伊去到另外世界, he mā 小代誌. 因為我 ē 去 hia kā 伊救轉來, 毋管彼个世界按怎反對. 總是, 我 ē hō͘ 送伊去 hia ê 人得著報復, 包准你不止小可仔滿意."
講到 chia, 伊走向 Dorothea, 跪 tī 她面前, kō͘ 騎士 kap 遊俠 ê 口氣, 請求公主殿下允准伊去幫贊今 tng-teh 遭受危難 ê 城堡主人. 公主大方 koh 慷慨, 一聲 tō 答應. 自 án-ne, 伊捏絚盾牌, 抽出寶劍, 傱向客棧大門. 彼時, hit 兩个旅客猶 teh 粗殘虐待店主. 但, Don Quixote 一下到位 hia, 隨停跤, 徛恬, 無採取行動. Maritornes kap 頭家娘問伊, 是按怎毋緊去救頭家?
"我 teh 躊躇," Don Quixote 講, "因為做一个騎士, 我袂使抽劍戰侍從身份 ê 人. 恁去叫我 ê 侍從 Sancho 來. 這擺 ê 保護 kap 復仇是伊 ê 職責, 著由伊來執行."
客棧門口 ê 代誌繼續進行, 拳頭母舂過來, 拍過去, 店頭家 hông 拍 kah 哀哀叫, á Maritornes, 頭家娘以及姻查某囝氣 phut-phut, 看 Don Quixote chiah-nī 無膽, 驚死, 害店頭家受這種虐待, hō͘ 姻 koh-khah 憤慨, 受氣.
今, 咱先離開現場, 莫 chhap 店主, 定著有人 ē 來救助, 若無, tō hō͘ 伊去食苦, siáng 叫伊無彼个氣力欲出彼个氣口. 咱倒退 50 步, 看 Don Luis 按怎回答法官私底下 tùi 伊 ê 問話, 是按怎行路來 chia, 是按怎穿 kah chiah làu-chhe̍h.
面對 chiah-ê 話, 少年家 kō͘ 手 ân-ân 捏法官, 表現出心內受艱苦 ê 大悲傷, 目屎 chho̍p-chho̍p 津, án-ne kā 伊回答:
"先生, 我所 ē-tàng 講 ê kan-ta 是, 一切是天 ê 安排, hō͘ 咱做厝邊. 自從我第一擺看著恁千金, mā 是我 ê 意中人, Doña Clara, 她 tō 成做我心意中 ê 夫人. 假使你無反對, 因為你是一个真 tāi-jîn, mā 是我 ê 叔伯, 我今仔日 tō 想欲娶她做牽手. 為著她, 我離開老爸 ê 厝, mā 是為著她, 我穿這軀裝扮, 追隨她無論到佗位, ná 像箭射向目標, 水手追隨北斗星.
"她一屑仔 to 毋知我 ê 情意, kan-ta 有幾擺遠遠看著我目睭閃淚光. 你知影, 先生, 阮爸母好額, 出身高貴, 我是 in 唯一 ê 繼承人. 假使 che 有夠 hō͘ 你肯牽成我, 請這時 tō 接納我做你 ê 囝婿. 假使阮老爸因為其他因素, 毋允准我 ka-tī 追求 ê 這个幸福, 我相信, 時間總是比人 ê 意志 koh-khah ē-tàng 改變事物."
Án-ne 講了後, 這个墜落愛情 ê 少年家恬落來, 法官聽 kah 驚一趒, gông-ngia̍h koh 意外, 毋但因為 Don Luis 坦白 ka-tī 心內祕密 ê 風度 kap 智慧, mā 因為伊忽然拄著這款無料著 ê 狀況, soah 毋知欲按怎反應. 伊所 ē-tàng 做 ê 回答, 只是叫伊先冷靜落來, 等伊 kap hiah-ê 僕人參詳, 莫這工 tō kā 伊𤆬轉去, 留時間來考慮按怎做 tùi 逐个 lóng 較好.
Don Luis 大力唚法官 ê 雙手, 目屎 chho̍p-chho̍p 津, 滴 kah he 手澹糊糊. 這種真情, 連石頭做 ê 心 to ē 感動, koh-khah 免講法官; 伊是一个精明 ê 人, 看 ē 到 chit 門婚姻 tùi 查某囝 ê 利益. M̄-koh, 伊若 ē-tàng, 上好是先得著 Don Luis in 老爸 ê 同意. 伊聽講 Don Luis ê 老爸 tng-teh 欲為後生爭取一个爵位.

To which Don Quixote very deliberately and phlegmatically replied, /
“Fair damsel, at the present moment your request is inopportune, for I am debarred from involving myself in any adventure until I have brought to a happy conclusion one to which my word has pledged me; but that which I can do for you is what I will now mention: run and tell your father to stand his ground as well as he can in this battle, and on no account to allow himself to be vanquished, while I go and request permission of the Princess Micomicona to enable me to succour him in his distress; and if she grants it, rest assured I will relieve him from it.”
“Sinner that I am,” exclaimed Maritornes, who stood by; “before you have got your permission my master will be in the other world.”
“Give me leave, señora, to obtain the permission I speak of,” returned Don Quixote; “and if I get it, it will matter very little if he is in the other world; for I will rescue him thence in spite of all the same world can do; or at any rate I will give you such a revenge over those who shall have sent him there that you will be more than moderately satisfied;” /
and without saying anything more he went and knelt before Dorothea, requesting her Highness in knightly and errant phrase to be pleased to grant him permission to aid and succour the castellan of that castle, who now stood in grievous jeopardy. The princess granted it graciously, and he at once, bracing his buckler on his arm and drawing his sword, hastened to the inn-gate, where the two guests were still handling the landlord roughly; but as soon as he reached the spot he stopped short and stood still, though Maritornes and the landlady asked him why he hesitated to help their master and husband.
“I hesitate,” said Don Quixote, “because it is not lawful for me to draw sword against persons of squirely condition; but call my squire Sancho to me; for this defence and vengeance are his affair and business.”
Thus matters stood at the inn-gate, where there was a very lively exchange of fisticuffs and punches, to the sore damage of the landlord and to the wrath of Maritornes, the landlady, and her daughter, who were furious when they saw the pusillanimity of Don Quixote, and the hard treatment their master, husband and father was undergoing. /
But let us leave him there; for he will surely find someone to help him, and if not, let him suffer and hold his tongue who attempts more than his strength allows him to do; and let us go back fifty paces to see what Don Luis said in reply to the Judge whom we left questioning him privately as to his reasons for coming on foot and so meanly dressed.
To which the youth, pressing his hand in a way that showed his heart was troubled by some great sorrow, and shedding a flood of tears, made answer:
“Señor, I have no more to tell you than that from the moment when, through heaven’s will and our being near neighbours, I first saw Doña Clara, your daughter and my lady, from that instant I made her the mistress of my will, and if yours, my true lord and father, offers no impediment, this very day she shall become my wife. For her I left my father’s house, and for her I assumed this disguise, to follow her whithersoever she may go, as the arrow seeks its mark or the sailor the pole-star. /
She knows nothing more of my passion than what she may have learned from having sometimes seen from a distance that my eyes were filled with tears. You know already, señor, the wealth and noble birth of my parents, and that I am their sole heir; if this be a sufficient inducement for you to venture to make me completely happy, accept me at once as your son; for if my father, influenced by other objects of his own, should disapprove of this happiness I have sought for myself, time has more power to alter and change things, than human will.”
With this the love-smitten youth was silent, while the Judge, after hearing him, was astonished, perplexed, and surprised, as well at the manner and intelligence with which Don Luis had confessed the secret of his heart, as at the position in which he found himself, not knowing what course to take in a matter so sudden and unexpected. All the answer, therefore, he gave him was to bid him to make his mind easy for the present, and arrange with his servants not to take him back that day, so that there might be time to consider what was best for all parties. /
Don Luis kissed his hands by force, nay, bathed them with his tears, in a way that would have touched a heart of marble, not to say that of the Judge, who, as a shrewd man, had already perceived how advantageous the marriage would be to his daughter; though, were it possible, he would have preferred that it should be brought about with the consent of the father of Don Luis, who he knew looked for a title for his son.
