Hit-lâng jīn-chhut Hoat-koaⁿ sī in chhù-piⁿ, tō ìn kóng:
"Lí kám bē jīn-tit chit-ūi sin-sū, Hoat-koaⁿ Ss? I sī lín chhù-piⁿ ê hau-seⁿ, i ùi in lāu-pē ê chhù thau-cháu chhut-lâi, chhēng chit-khoán bô ha̍h sin-hūn ê ho̍k-chong, koh-hā eng-tong mā khòaⁿ ē-chhut."
Hoat-koaⁿ siông-sè kā siòng, jīn-chhut i, tō kā i lám-tio̍h, kóng:
"Gōng gín-á ah, Don Luis Ss, sī siáⁿ goân-in hō͘ lí kō͘ chit-chióng hong-sek lâi-kàu chia, chhēng chit-khoán saⁿ, chiah-nī bô ha̍h lí ê sin-hūn?"

44.2 伊是恁厝邊 ê 後生
"He 著看我 kám 願意, 若無, tō 由天安排," Don Luis 回答.
"你願意啥, 天安排啥?" 另外 hit 人講, "除了轉去, 別項 lóng 無可能."
兩人 ê 對話 hō͘ 倒 tī Don Luis 身邊 ê 騾夫聽著. 伊 peh 起來, 走去 kā 發生 ê 代誌報告 hō͘ 已經起床, 穿好勢 ê Don Fernando, Cardenio, 以及其他人聽. 伊 kā in 講, 彼个人稱呼少年家 "Don," 以及 in 中間講 ê 話, 伊警告少年家著轉 in 老爸 hia, 毋過伊無願意. 聽著 che, 以及 in 已經知 hit 人有罕得 ê 好歌喉, in lóng 足想欲進一步知少年家 ê 身世, 甚至欲幫贊伊, 假使有人強迫伊. 自 án-ne, in 趕緊去到 Don Luis kap 僕人講話相諍 ê 所在.
Dorothea 拄好 tī 這時行出房間, 後面綴全身 phi̍h-phi̍h chhoah ê Clara Sc. Dorothea 叫 Cardenio 到一爿, 簡單 kā 音樂家 kap Clara Sc ê 代誌講 hō͘ 伊知, 伊 mā kā 她講發生 ê 代誌, 講 in 兜 ê 僕人來 chia teh 揣伊. 但 teh 講 ê 時, 煞 去 hō͘ Clara Sc 聽著, 害她激動 kah 欲昏倒, 若毋是 Dorothea kā 扶著, 她 tō 倒落塗跤 ah lah. Cardenio 叫 Dorothea 姻轉去房間, 講伊 ē 盡力 kā 代誌發落好勢, in tō 斡倒轉去.
這時, hit 4 个來揣 Don Luis ê 人已經入來客棧, 圍 tī 伊身邊, 勸伊即時轉去安慰 in 老爸, 毋通延遲. 伊應講, 無論如何, 伊袂當今隨離開, 著先處理一件牽涉有關性命, 名譽, kap 心靈 ê 重要代誌. 僕人堅持講, in 絕對袂空手轉去, 毋管伊願意 a̍h 無, in 一定著𤆬伊轉去.
"除非我死," Don Luis 講, "恁無可能𤆬我轉去. 毋管恁按怎掠我, 掠著 ê lóng 是無性命 ê 我."
這時陣, 客棧大部份 ê 人走過來看相諍, 尤其是 Cardenio, Don Fernando kap in 同伴, 猶有法官, 神父, 剃頭師, kap Don Quixote. Don Quixote 認為, 這時 ê 城堡無需要徛衛兵. Cardenio 因為知影少年家 ê 故事, tō 問 hiah-ê 欲押伊轉去 ê 人, 為啥物欲違反伊 ê 意願迫伊轉去?
"阮 ê 目的," 其中一人講, "是欲救 in 老爸 ê 性命, 因為這位紳士離開, 伊已經著急 kah tit 欲無命 ah."
聽著 che, Don Luis 喝聲講:
"無必要 tī chia 公開我 ê 私事. 我有我 ê 自由. 我若願意我 tō 轉去, 我若無願意, siáng to 袂當強迫我."
"理性 ē 強迫閣下," hit 人講, "he 若對你無效, 但對阮有效, hō͘ 阮執行來 chia ê 職責, 完成阮 ê 使命."
"咱來聽看覓, 代誌到底是按怎," 法官講.
Hit 人認出法官是 in 厝邊, tō 應講:
"你 kám 袂認得這位紳士, 法官 Ss? 伊是恁厝邊 ê 後生, 伊 ùi in 老爸 ê 厝偷走出來, 穿這款無合身份 ê 服裝, 閣下應當 mā 看會出."
法官詳細 kā 相, 認出伊, tō kā 伊攬著, 講:
"戇囡仔 ah, Don Luis Ss, 是啥原因 hō͘ 你 kō͘ 這種方式來到 chia, 穿這款衫, chiah-nī 無合你 ê 身份?"
少年家目屎含目墘, 一句話 to 無法度應法官. 法官叫 hit 4 个僕人免著急, 代誌將 ē 妥當解決. 然後, 伊牽 Don Luis ê 手, 行到邊仔, 問伊來 chia ê 原因.
Tī 法官問話 ê 彼時, ùi 客棧大門傳來吵鬧聲. 原來是有兩个 tī chia 過暝 ê 人客, 趁逐个無閒 teh 了解 hit 4 个僕人來 chia ê 目的 ê 時, 無納數 tō 想欲溜. M̄-koh, 店頭家要意 ka-tī ê 代誌超過別人 ê, 發現 in 欲溜出大門, 叫 in 結數, koh kō͘ 歹聽話責備 in 無老實, 惹 in 動手報復, kā 可憐 ê 頭家拍 kah 喝救人.
頭家娘 kap 查某囝看 kan-ta Don Quixote 有閒 ē-tit 過來幫忙, tō 叫伊:
"騎士 Sià, 看 tī 神 ê 正義, 請緊救阮老爸, hit 兩个惡徒得欲 kā 伊拍死 ah."

“That shall be as I please, or as heaven orders,” returned Don Luis.
“What can you please or heaven order,” said the other, “except to agree to go back? Anything else is impossible.”
All this conversation between the two was overheard by the muleteer at whose side Don Luis lay, and rising, he went to report what had taken place to Don Fernando, Cardenio, and the others, who had by this time dressed themselves; and told them how the man had addressed the youth as “Don,” and what words had passed, and how he wanted him to return to his father, which the youth was unwilling to do. With this, and what they already knew of the rare voice that heaven had bestowed upon him, they all felt very anxious to know more particularly who he was, and even to help him if it was attempted to employ force against him; so they hastened to where he was still talking and arguing with his servant. /
Dorothea at this instant came out of her room, followed by Doña Clara all in a tremor; and calling Cardenio aside, she told him in a few words the story of the musician and Doña Clara, and he at the same time told her what had happened, how his father’s servants had come in search of him; but in telling her so, he did not speak low enough but that Doña Clara heard what he said, at which she was so much agitated that had not Dorothea hastened to support her she would have fallen to the ground. Cardenio then bade Dorothea return to her room, as he would endeavour to make the whole matter right, and they did as he desired. /
All the four who had come in quest of Don Luis had now come into the inn and surrounded him, urging him to return and console his father at once and without a moment’s delay. He replied that he could not do so on any account until he had concluded some business in which his life, honour, and heart were at stake. The servants pressed him, saying that most certainly they would not return without him, and that they would take him away whether he liked it or not.
“You shall not do that,” replied Don Luis, “unless you take me dead; though however you take me, it will be without life.”
By this time most of those in the inn had been attracted by the dispute, but particularly Cardenio, Don Fernando, his companions, the Judge, the curate, the barber, and Don Quixote; for he now considered there was no necessity for mounting guard over the castle any longer. Cardenio being already acquainted with the young man’s story, asked the men who wanted to take him away, what object they had in seeking to carry off this youth against his will.
“Our object,” said one of the four, “is to save the life of his father, who is in danger of losing it through this gentleman’s disappearance.”
Upon this Don Luis exclaimed, /
“There is no need to make my affairs public here; I am free, and I will return if I please; and if not, none of you shall compel me.”
“Reason will compel your worship,” said the man, “and if it has no power over you, it has power over us, to make us do what we came for, and what it is our duty to do.”
“Let us hear what the whole affair is about,” said the Judge at this; /
but the man, who knew him as a neighbour of theirs, replied, /
“Do you not know this gentleman, Señor Judge? He is the son of your neighbour, who has run away from his father’s house in a dress so unbecoming his rank, as your worship may perceive.”
The judge on this looked at him more carefully and recognised him, and embracing him said, /
“What folly is this, Señor Don Luis, or what can have been the cause that could have induced you to come here in this way, and in this dress, which so ill becomes your condition?”
Tears came into the eyes of the young man, and he was unable to utter a word in reply to the Judge, who told the four servants not to be uneasy, for all would be satisfactorily settled; and then taking Don Luis by the hand, he drew him aside and asked the reason of his having come there.
But while he was questioning him they heard a loud outcry at the gate of the inn, the cause of which was that two of the guests who had passed the night there, seeing everybody busy about finding out what it was the four men wanted, had conceived the idea of going off without paying what they owed; but the landlord, who minded his own affairs more than other people’s, caught them going out of the gate and demanded his reckoning, abusing them for their dishonesty with such language that he drove them to reply with their fists, and so they began to lay on him in such a style that the poor man was forced to cry out, and call for help. /
The landlady and her daughter could see no one more free to give aid than Don Quixote, and to him the daughter said, /
“Sir knight, by the virtue God has given you, help my poor father, for two wicked men are beating him to a mummy.”
